A Year, A Day and A Nomination

Posted on October 14, 2014

Exactly one year and one day ago this blog saw the light of day. This means that by this time last year, I was in New York hopping from Starbucks to Starbucks to check what you guys thought of my newest baby. These exciting days were followed by an amazing year filled with new ideas, a lot of work and hopefully plenty of inspiration for you all. Since my Ella And Louise days, I wanted to focus more on a unique combination of fashion and travel with a hint of delicious food. I’m still working on improving the blog every day but there are some favorites that made my top 6 (I couldn’t stick to 5) posts. This direction of fashionable wanderlust  is something that I feel very passionate about and look forward to showing more of in the future.

Last week I found out that I’m nominated in the ‘Newcomer’ category of the Weekend Knack Blog Awards. Those of you, who have been reading my ramblings for a while, know that we had the amazing honor of winning the “Best Fashion Blog” award with Ella And Louise in the past two years. Both times Patricia and myself were completely in shock when we won and we were certain that the award would go to one of our amazing blogger colleagues. This year is no different in that the competition is fierce to say the least (and unfortunately includes my ex-E&L colleague). These awards hold a very precious place in my heart and that is why I would be so happy if I were to take it home on this individual journey as well. You can vote by following this link and don’t forget to enter your e-mail address at the end (however you don’t have to vote for every category). Let me know if you voted and expect some major hugs the next time I see you!

Moving on to my top 6 of favorite subjects and posts:

6. Crop Top Love

This outfit is by far my favorite combination of the summer and the top that also sparked my love for crop tops. Just wished those tanned lags would have stuck around.

5. Music To My Ears

The songs I mentioned in the article 5 Great Covers To Listen to have been on my playlist continuously. Recently Ben Howard did it again by covering Kiesza’s ‘Hideaway‘ and transforming it in the most wonderful manner. He also has a new album coming up, looking forward to listening to that one!

Oh and I don’t want to deprive you of the amazing ‘Wrecking Ball’ cover by London Grammar that sparked  my most recent obsession. On that note, Miley Cyrus’ cover of Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness isn’t bad either.

4. Blogging Toolkit

Writing a blog on your own is a whole lot more work then writing one in a team. Creating the Blogging Toolkit series has been just us much about making myself more productive as it was about inspiring you. This infographic about how to use Pinterest as a blogger or brand in general still is very current. But next to that I do still have a couple of tricks up my sleeve which I will share as soon as I can find the time, paper-free blogger office anyone?

3. Contemplation and Growing Up

This year has been a lot about thinking what my next step needed to be. Finding a balance between work, play, travel and the blog was most important in that process. These 5 lessons learned from Refinery 29 (and Béyonce) was one of my favorite articles in this search. I hope it inspired you as much as it did me.

2. Roadtrip(s) to France

I got the opportunity to get to know France a lot better this year. I had a solo roadtrip to the wine region of Avignon and later on a girl-getaway in Bonnieux and a family escape in the Indre province on the books. Especially the wine tour was exciting since it was the first presstrip for Rooftop Antics and I had to manage everything by myself and all in French. My GPS even failed halfway through the trip obligating me to navigate old-school via a small printed map and random people on the streets. Oh the memories, it was a lot of fun and I was enjoying every second of it!

1. New York Baby

Launching the blog in New York is something I’ll never forget. It was my first visit to the city and I immediately felt right at home. I left with so many more spots that I still wanted to visit, boroughs I wanted to live in and cocktails I needed to drink. Rest assure New York, I’ll be back! Read all the posts about this wonderful city here.

And remember, don’t forget to vote! Pretty please?
