Hold the phone, I have found my dream mansion! This treehouse started my obsessions with staying in treehouses all over the world. And for those of us who are in NSW (New South Wales), Australia, and temporarily stuck in the state, I have gathered my favorite treehouse accommodation in NSW! Whether you’re heading to the Blue Mountains, Byron Bay or the Mid-North Coast of NSW, I’ve got you covered!
Treehouse accommodation is amazing for any city escape and gives that little bit of extra to any road trip! Get your inner child out and climb up that tree! Just kidding, these treehouses aren’t your climb-up-the-ladder kinda places, they are structurally-sound beautiful homes that you can stay in on the weekend (or week or month)!
The Ultimate Bellingen Treehouses
I first came across photos of this mystery house in Bellingen, New South Wales Australia, years ago, and have never quite forgotten it. Every now and again, this dreamy treehouse in NSW pops up on Instagram again and I’ll recognize it straight away. Not far from Bellingen, a cute little boho town south from Coffs Harbour and a great day trip from the picturesque beach town South West Rocks, this treehouse accommodation is all you can ask for.
Treehouses seem like the perfect accommodation at all times and this treehouse… well, its fair to say that it has become Insta famous! I spotted it first on Airbnb in 2014 and in the meantime, it went on and off Airbnb. It took me ages to find which treehouse accommodation it actually was and sadly, in the meantime, I lost it again, go figure! But Bellingen is full of amazing accommodation, right on the locally-famous Never Never Creek.: tiny houses, cabins, and much more. You can browse through them here. It really is the perfect place to disconnect from our busy lives or to relax after a full day of scuba diving with the Grey Nurse Sharks.
I would seriously drive up there from Sydney just to stay in this picturesque treehouse (and 100% bring my camera)!
Take your pick of Treehouses in the Blue Mountains
The Blue Mountains is one of the most popular weekend getaways from Sydney and for good reason! Whether you’re heading here for the famous Three Sisters lookout, for a good old Blue Mountains hike or to go mountain biking, the Blue Mountains offers it all!
I can’t even count how many times I’ve gone to this little tree-filled paradise right next to Sydney. That’s probably why this seems like it has more treehouse accommodation in NSW to choose from than I can count. I went through and found you the most epic Blue Mountains treehouses to stay in!
Self-contained Treehouse in Wollemi National Park
Wollemi National Park is located right next to the Blue Mountains National Park and might be one of my favourite areas to go to. It’s full of great hiking spots and is a local favourite for canyoning!
This self-contained treehouse right next to the Blue Mountains looks like your ultimate mountaineering cabin! It even has a fireplace to keep you warm on those cold mountain nights. Lie in the hammock on the outdoor deck after a long hike or enjoy the outdoor shower on sunny days (no worries, they also have an indoor shower). You can even catch some yabbies in the creek and throw them on the balcony BBQ after! It’s the perfect place for real nature lovers and can almost guarantee that you’ll get to see some kangaroos in the morning!
If you want to stay in a Blue Mountains treehouse, this would be my budget pick! If you need any more reason to stay here, they donate all proceeds of the cabin to charity.
The Ultimate Blue Mountains Treehouse
Words fail me when I try to describe how cool this treehouse is! It’s not often that you can stay in a place this cool. The ‘Secret Treehouse’ has made many appearances on Instagram and has probably been in every editorial around. But can you blame them, I mean look at it!
On the border between Blue Mountains National Park and Wollemi National Park, this award-winning treehouse even has a freaking hot tub right in the bedroom (with a view of course) and will be just for the two of you. It screams uber-romantic getaway to me!
Fair enough, it is not the most budget-friendly treehouse in this line-up, but one thing is for sure… It will be hard to forget a night here!
Stay in a Clifftop Cave
Ok, not exactly a treehouse, this clifftop cave does have the same views are a treehouse! Located right on the clifftop in the Blue Mountains National Park, this amazing accommodation is actually owned by the same people that own the other Blue Mountains Treehouse!
Similar to their treehouse, the cave accommodation has all the luxuries that you would want from a once in a lifetime experience. Named the Enchanted Cave, you can wake up with a view or lay out next to the fire and enjoy the stars. This place is where every romantic scene is based on!
One does have to pay for the only cave accommodation up to this standard. Prices for this dreamy location start around $950, maybe honeymoon material?
Treehouse Views over the Royal National Park
A weekend getaway to the Royal National Park can only be made better by staying in a treehouse AMIRITE? This luxury award-winning treehouse offers a great location close to Sydney, but also the perfect drop-off point for world-class mountain biking trails, kayaking, fishing and bushwalking right at your at the door.
If you are new to Airbnb, you can still receive a $47 AUD discount on your first booking on Airbnb.
Head to this gorgeous treehouse in the Royal National Park for a romantic getaway with your partner or with your best mate. What is better than waking up with views onto the waters of the Royal National Park right from your comfy bed.
Traveling in a bigger group? You can also rent this epic location with 8 people by renting out the whole house instead of the smaller studio. At less than $100 per person per night, it’s a steal to sleep in such a luxurious treehouse!
Treehouse Byron Bay Heaven
Byron Bay seems like the perfect treehouse accommodation location to me! It has boho in its blood and the locals love giving you what you’ve come looking for! So I wasn’t surprised at all when I bumped into these amazing Byron Bay Treehouses!
I’ve been to Byron Bay several times and even wrote a guide to Byron Bay! There is a reason why Byron Bay is such a popular spot for almost everyone who visits Australia.
Byron Bay Treetop Houses for Big Groups
While treehouses are fantastic, squeezing your whole family or friend group in one is sometimes challenging! But if you still want to stay in the treetops, why not head to the treetop houses in the Oasis Apartments and Treetop Houses? It’s perfect for a big group as these treetop houses have up to three bedrooms. Plus they all have this amazing balcony area to chill out on. What more can you ask for?
Oh, that’s right, the location. Well, these treetop houses are at a pretty epic location, only 400 meters from Tallow Beach, which is one of my favourite beaches further away from the tourist hub. And with a sauna and a heated swimming pool, this place is a TREAT!
Have a look at their availability here.
The Rainforest Treehouse
This very special treehouse is situated in the subtropical rainforest surrounding Byron Bay. An ideal escape from the sometimes touristy Byron Bay hub, you’ll feel zen straight away in this gorgeous abode. Not exactly located in the treetops, you still get the feel of a treehouse!
Perfect for a couple or two friends, the treehouse has everything you need for a weekend away. I love that every room just has one floor. The bedroom has its own floor (with the best view) and the living space and kitchen area can be found on the second floor. Every floor has a beautiful outside seating area and the downstairs even has an amazing stone bathtub. An outdoor bath you said? I’m in! Prices start at $179 per night.
Crowdy Bay Views in Treetop Villas (Mid North Coast NSW)
Close to Port Macquarie, right next to Crowdy Bay National Park, we find these gorgeous Diamond Waters treetop villas. A little less rustic, these treetop houses are perfect for the luxury-seeking nature-loving couple. These treetop houses have a fully equipped kitchen (so handy if you’re traveling the east coast!) and balcony views that are lush and green. Check your availability here.
