New Year’s Eve and a Dealer on the Maldives

Finally I can show the lower half of this gorgeous dress on the blog. This was my outfit for New Year’s Eve on the Maldives and has been my go-to outfit for any fancier occasion during my trip. But first I want to tell you the story about my New Year’s Eve experience on the Maldives because it’s a story worth telling, if only for the entertainment value. Next to being a stunning country with the most beautiful colors of water (upon arrival the first thought is: Does this really exist?!), kind people and the best dive sites in the world, the Maldives is also a Muslim state. This means that they do not serve alcohol, not a drop, nor are you allowed to bring it across the border, at least not onto the local islands. The country is divided between resort islands and local islands, which also has different laws in place. The resorts basically buy an entire island and run their hotel like any retreat worldwide. A local island is different in the sense that it abides by local muslim laws, which means no bikinis on the beach and no alcohol. A bit different from what you expect when you’re first planning a trip to the Maldives, right? The reason why you should visit only local islands anyway? It’s the only way to experience the local culture and also … budget. Resorts are not just pricey, they are very very expensive. But more on that in a different post.

Imagine, you’re planning your next trip abroad. What should you to take? A bikini or two for sure, a pretty dress for at night and … make-up? Of course! Why should you leave your make-up at home if you like wearing some on a regular basis? However you might need to rethink your daily routine. Heavy or dark coverage doesn’t work so well on holiday and it might be a good excuse to embrace a more natural look. Moreover your skin will be happy to have a little breather.

Imagine yourself a shop where you can have every piece of clothing or shoes made that you ever desired. Sound like a dream right? Well it’s not, that shop is called Hoi An, a small town in Vietnam. The home of a countless amount of tailors and shoemakers, you can basically have anything and everything custom-made for a very reasonable price. As a fashion blogger of course I couldn’t forgo this opportunity and started making a list of the items I had been looking for some time but could never found/couldn’t afford.

Wow, I never expected to leave the blog behind for so long. It started with one bad WIFI connection and then another and another (not that I have been able to locate excellent wifi since) and then came the preparations for a new design for the blog. That new design looks amazing and will come really soon but I didn’t want to leave the blog alone for much longer than I already have so here it is, finally a new post! I created so much content already traveling through India, Maldives, Laos and Cambodia already that I didn’t really know which post to start with first. I decided to go for one of the outfit shoots that I did right at the beginning. These photos were taken on the houseboat that we took to travel through the Kerala backwaters around Alleppey. This was truly a beautiful start to get to know India and I’ll show you more about this soon.

Pressday with Weekday

During our Antwerp pressday marathon I decided to wear one of my favorite outfits. Predictably it consists out of my completely worn out Steve Madden boots and customized ripped denim combined with my brand new WEEKDAY top and this amazing Selected Femme Becca Wrap coat. While spending the week in Amsterdam a little while back I couldn’t miss out on paying a visit to the WEEKDAY store. With pieces from other brands such as Cheap Monday, Whyred, Rodebjer and their own brand, the store is an ideal mix between expensive and very affordable pieces. If you’re around, put it on your to-do list. Back to the coat, it has been hanging in my closet waiting for colder weather and since the temperature has dropped it hasn’t come off. It literally goes with any outfit as it perfectly cinches in my waist.

I would love to tell you a little story today, as you know my first solo trip was to Thailand. I absolutely fell in love with the country and I was very happy that I had chosen Thailand as my first solo destination. One of the spots that I remember most fondly is the island of Koh Tao, a diver’s paradise (even though I didn’t go diving) and it has the most mellow atmosphere. It’s also here that I discovered the cutest little shop Nuchi who carries a jewelry brand that I have come to love dearly, A Little Dot. Cosmic coincidence, or as I like to call it, social media, connected the designer of the brand, Suparat and myself once again as we started mailing each other from across the globe.
