In the last month and a half, I went to no less than five different concerts and festivals. That means I’ve been dancing A LOT and enjoyed an awful lot of good music. Couldn’t be happier about that!
Two Door Cinema Club
Tuesday was the long awaited concert of Two Door Cinema Club in the Botanique. Those of you who read the blog regularly, know that their music makes me very cheerful. I got to know them at Rock Werchter two years ago and have been listening to them ever since. Starting with “Sleep Alone” and following with “Undercover Martyn” set the bar high from the moment go. At a certain point you could feel that the band’s touring adventures took away a bit of the enthusiasm I saw at Werchter, but about midway though the concert they were completely into it and so was the crowd. Dancing garantueed with Two Door Cinema Club.
Gaslight Anthem
Yet another great band and great music. I discovered them the same year I did TDCC and have been listening to them just as much. The band was in a good mood and that really transfers to the audience. While I saw time last time on the main stage at Werchter, the sold out Ancienne Belgique had a completely different feel. The music gave me just what I was coming for and seriously, how can you resist the voice of wonderful frontman Brian Fallon, or for that matter, that smile?
Band Of Horses
I missed out on buying tickets for this sold out concert at Trix. Makes you wonder how I got in probably. Well to the wonderful world of Twitter and my new resolution to say yes to crazy ideas, I went with the formerly unknown “Uw Moeder” from Appelogen (find his review on the blog). Band Of Horses started the concert with an amazingly beautiful and acoustic version of ‘No One’s Gonna Love You’. The rest of the concert was just as good for me. Small downside were the songs from their second album ‘Mirage Rock’. Not the best album and a bit awkward when performed live. It was also the first time I saw a band with visuals such as theirs, very nice change from the static banner that is usually hung at other concerts. Sidenote, I’ve never seen a band throw around their guitars as much as they did, quite impressive. Thank you again to @Appelogen for taking me!
Netsky @ L’Usine & I Love Techno
Due to pure coincidence, I saw Netsky Live two weeks in a row. Once at L’Usine in Geneva and once at I Love Techno. Given that both concert had other dj’s performing that night, Netsky was the one that did it for me. I knew he was good from Laundry Day last year but at I Love Techno, he and the rest of the band were beyond incredible. My entire body was sore the next day from dancing so hard. Dubstep definitely makes the muscles work.
It has been a bit crazy how many good concerts are coming up in the next year as well. I’m very happy about my ticket to The Killers in March in Vorst Nationaal and we’re definitely also buying another ticket to Rock Werchter this year as Kings Of Leon are gracing us with their presence again. Quite curious for some new music from that last one.
