As you probably saw, I’m currently wandering the streets of New York. As I had my NYC birthday dinner almost right after my plane I wanted to land looking as fresh as possible. To do that, I prepared my usual in-flight survival kit. These are all the essentials that you will need to make the flight as pleasant as possible and arrive just as fresh as when you go on board.
1. Moisturize
The single most important thing that you need to do on a light is moisturizing your body and your face. Therefore it is important to drink plenty of water during, before and after the flight. I also always take a small container of my favorite moisturizer with me (I’m currently using Dermatology), a small jar of coconut oil, which is thé best moisturizer and my Kiehl’s lip balm. However don’t forget to take your make-up off because slathering moisturizer on. During longer flights, don’t hesitate to give your skin another layer after a few hours. Remember that the airplane air is extremely dehydrating.
2. Get Comfy
Even on the laziest sunday you will never catch me out with my jogging pants on. But when you know you have a flight of about 10 hours ahead of you, it’s important to get a bit more comfortable. I will wear my jeans to the airport but switch into some lighter fabrics while there. My ideal plain outfit is my favorite comfy pants combined with a hoodie of some sort. A hoodie is great to forget about the fact that you have someone sitting way to close to you. It’s also a good idea to bring a soft scarf and maybe an extra pair of socks to compensate for the air conditioning on the flight.
3. Catch up on sleep
Because you’re stuck on the flight anyway, I always try to catch up on sleep. Because you’re never alone on a flight, it’s important that you can make sure that you can fall a sleep. I swear by my silk eyemask and wax earplugs, this will block out most of the light and sound. I also always take a neck pillow with me which I wrap in a scarf. That way your neck doesn’t get highly strung and you don’t have sore muscles on the first day of your holiday.
4. Some extra in-flight love
Some other things that I will always take with me on a flight are hand wipes. There are just too many people together on that one flight. Moreover you are touching everything and if you are applying creme with dirty hands, that is never a good idea.
5. Upon landing
When you know the plane is about to land it is time to spruce up your face. I applied the Kiehl’s In-Flight Refreshing Facial Mist and a Vitamin E serum capsule to give my skin a kickstart. Finish up with some BB creme, Touch éclat for your spots and under your eyes, curl your lashes and put on some mascara, add a touch of color with a Clinique Chubby Stick and maybe a pair of sunglasses. For your hair, you can take some sort of serum or oil with you to smooth out that bed-hair that was created.
