I used to be an extremely loyal fan of the perfect cat-eye. While I don’t do it on a daily basis anymore, it is my go-to for a big night out. There is something about a perfect winged eyeliner that gives you that wow effect. If I’m on the road, I would even include it in my travel make-up kit. A cat-eye and a bright red lip give you the ability to carry very few products and get a big impact.
But guys, I know it’s hard! It often takes many tries to get it right and in the end, it’s muscle memory. The two biggest celebs that use it as their staple look are, of course, Lauren Conrad and Alexa Chung. Thankfully both stars are giving us their best tips on how to get the look right. Note that both Lauren Conrad and Alexa Chung keep the rest of their make-up very simple!
How to draw the Perfect Cat-Eye: Learn from Lauren Conrad and Alexa Chung
The perfect cat-eye by Alexa Chung
Because I’ve been through the struggles of trying to get it right, I’ve compiled a few of my favorite tutorial videos from Lauren and Alexa. In the video below, Alexa Chung explains how she uses her bottom eyelash as a reference for the perfect cat-eye. I love how real she keeps it as well, less is more guys!
If you haven’t had enough of Alexa Chung tutorials, here is one by her favorite make-up artist Lisa Eldridge, starring Alexa Chung herself.
How Lauren Conrad does her winged eyeliner
Lauren Conrad loves to share her trick as well in a really elaborate and easy way to do it. Notice that they both start from a completely different angle, so it’s worth trying it out for yourself and seeing what works best for you. Lauren’s method works best for me, I was even able to do it at the Belgian festival, Pukkelpop, with a tiny and very unsteady mirror. I usually always had to powder the first line and then go over it again with a second coat of liquid liner, but with this method, it isn’t necessary. Also, no more lines that are accidentally too thick and it gives you the effect of bigger eyes. I can only recommend you trying it as well.
Which is the best liquid liner for the perfect cat-eye?
Over the years I’ve tried quite a lot of liquid liners. I feel like most of them don’t stay on your eyes very well or get smudged after a couple of hours. The one I have been using the most is the L’Oreal Super Liner Black Lacquer. It had a very easy brush, doesn’t leak and stays on very well. The only downside is that the product runs out quite fast. Another eyeliner that struck my fancy is the Eyeko eyeliner.
Eyeko is the brand that is well known for its collaboration with Alexa Chung. The mean reason I love it is because it does not smudge as much as other brands do and it doesn’t run out as fast. It is also a vegan and cruelty-free product, which is very important for me. Get these awesome eyeliners below.
