Hey guys, while I have been settling into Australian life yet again, the blog has been a bit quiet. But not anymore! Most of you might not realize but in order to write on a regular basis, one need a routine and some regularity. You need to stick around in one location for a little bit and preferably not live out of a hostel.
Wow guys, it took me a while to make my first travel video. To say that this was a steep learning curve is an understatement….
Choosing amongst your favorite spots during your travels is like choosing between your kids. Every spot moved or didn’t move you in a certain way and is, therefore, special in their own wonderful way. Geikie Gorge in Western Australia was definitely one of those places and is unlike any of the other spots down the Great Northern Highway. Where can you find this gorge? It is located in the northern tip of Australia. Right in the middle of the Kimberleys, where the Fitzroy river passes a little town called Fitzroy Crossing -go figure, right?-. In between the two big northern cities of Western Australia, Kununurra and Broome, on the paved highway that connects them. Unlike many of the national parks in northern Australia, you don’t need a four-wheel drive for this attraction. If you’re traveling around Australia in a van or a normal car, you can easily see this gorge as well! Of course is also reachable from the famous Great Gibb River Road, one of Australia’s most legendary four-wheel-drive roads.
The first thing an Australian told me upon arrival in my Darwin hostel was “Everything in the ocean is trying to kill you, you won’t make it longer than five minutes”. Welcome to the Northern Territory, where everything is trying to kill you and each other! This is the land where the animals and some of the people are all kinds of cray cray. Where crocodiles eat bull sharks and snakes eat crocodiles. Where kangaroos have relationships with pigs and where flies would take over the country if they had a bigger brain. Welcome to the Northern Territory!
The famous East Coast trips of most travelers skip Newcastle and not unlike Brisbane, it has a reputation of being boring and less interesting than Sydney or Melbourne. While both capital cities are very vibrant and beautiful, so is Newcastle. The city is a great stop on most people’s travels or is a perfect weekend getaway for other Australians. Therefore I would love to invite you into my travel guide to Newcastle, New South Wales. It is full of foodie goodness, outdoor activities and espresso martinis. Nobody put’s baby in the corner.
In the years before I started traveling I often got lost in a dreamworld of my favorite tv-shows or movies that would take me away to far away places. Fiction shows or documentaries that show certain locations always got me hooked. Even to this day, in which I have found myself in my own fantasy, I look to these shows to inspire even more travel. I love using them as inspiration for where I want to go in the world, what I need to eat in a new location or just to reconfirm why this travel thing is all worth it.
