Travel Guide to Newcastle, New South Wales

Location: , 9 min read

The famous East Coast trips of most travelers skip Newcastle and not unlike Brisbane, it has a reputation of being boring and less interesting than Sydney or Melbourne. While both capital cities are very vibrant and beautiful, so is Newcastle. The city is a great stop on most people’s travels or is a perfect weekend getaway for other Australians. Therefore I would love to invite you into my travel guide to Newcastle, New South Wales. It is full of foodie goodness, outdoor activities and espresso martinis. Nobody put’s baby in the corner.

Planning a trip to Japan

3 min read

My up-and-coming trip to Japan was determined by a Jetstar sale. Tickets were only 199 Australian dollars and my work-holiday visa for Australia was coming to an end. I knew I wanted to get closer to a big Asian hub to be able to find a cheap flight home. You read that right, home! After Japan I will (temporarily) be flying back to Belgium. With a couple of stop-overs in Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi of course. Breaking up a long trip like this is something I really enjoy doing and I get to visit a couple of extra countries. Sure it took me six months to get to Australia, but I got here in the end didn’t I?

20 Tips for Eating Street Food in Asia Without Getting Sick

7 min read

While going for Thai food yesterday, my friends and I were reminiscing on what we miss in Asia. The organized chaos, the diversity, the smiles and most importantly, the street food! I still remember my first visit to a street food market in Thailand like it was yesterday. It is overwhelming and hectic, but is there anything better than sitting down on one of those plastic stools and enjoying this amazing street food that is both delicious and super cheap? I knew immediately this was going to be my next blog post. Especially after seeing this photo this morning of my personal hero Anthony Bourdain and the American president in a little Hanoi street food diner. Hey, if it’s good enough for the president, it’s good enough for you. Not everyone is as excited about street food as I am, it can be quite scary when you arrive in Asia and it seems like everyone is making something on the corner of the street. Which food is safe and isn’t going to sentence you to the loo for most of the evening (food poisoning is violent!). Which food will taste the best? What if all the street stalls are making more of the same? What does it even say on the menu? How do I figure out how much it costs? The best pad thai I’ve had? On a corner in Koh tao. The best and most deliciously soft squid? On a beach in Cambodia. Tom yum goon I will always remember? Next to the road on the motorbike loop of Pakse, Laos. Eating so much we lost ability to walk? Definitely all around Malaysia! There is nothing that breaks my heart more than hearing somebody went to Singapore, where eating is the national hobby, and was afraid to eat in the hawker stalls. Therefore, I wanted to give you my 20 tips for eating street food in Asia without getting sick. I’ve tried and tested all of them and hope they will help you scope out your awesome next meal:

A Bandana: the Travel And Fashion Accessory You Want To Have

3 min read

Everything in your nomad’s wardrobe, or the clothing you travel with is preferably light and extremely versatile. Weighing in at about 10 grams and having more than 20 ways to wear and use it makes a bandana the travel and fashion accessory you want to have. Wearing a bandana gives me a major throwback to my teenage years but, as this accessory has a place in almost every decade, it is kinda perfect it is back fashion. With the major fashion bloggers, models and actors wearing them, there is plenty of inspiration around. I only recently picked one up in Nimbin, the Australian mecca for hippies and lovers of the green tobacco. What I truly love about this trend is that it is super versatile, very affordable at prices between 1 and 15 euro and that you can buy all the colors in the rainbow if you want to.

My Festival Playlist

2 min read

The fashion at music festivals is a lot of fun but of course the actual music is what it is all about. While preparing for Pukkelpop this week, I’ve submerged myself in the bands that are coming and put together a little playlist. Not only bands that are coming to Belgium this weekend, but also a couple of my all time favorites that were at Rock Werchter, Couleur Café and Les Ardentes. Perfect to play when you’re packing your bags or when you’re on the road! I also added some pics that I still had laying around from festivals last year and this year.
